Indoor portraits are where this lens has made the biggest difference in my photography. The wide f/1.2 aperture lets me separate my subject from a busy background, giving portraits a pleasing depth without needing a large space or elaborate setup. Skin tones look natural with my usual Fuji settings, and the level of detail holds up well when I zoom in to check my shots.
Low light is another area where I appreciate having such a bright lens available. Evening gatherings, dim cafes, and rooms lit mainly by lamps become much easier to photograph without immediately reaching for a flash. I can keep shutter speeds more practical and avoid raising ISO excessively, which helps preserve the look I want straight out of the camera.
Manual focusing has become part of the enjoyment for me. The focus ring gives me direct control when I want to be precise with a subject's eyes or experiment with close-up compositions. At f/1.2, the depth of field is quite shallow, so careful focusing matters, especially with portraits taken from a short distance. Once I take my time, the results can be very rewarding.
Build quality also deserves a mention. The lens feels sturdy, and the controls are straightforward enough that I can concentrate on composing rather than fiddling with settings. It has some heft compared with a small everyday prime, but it balances reasonably well on my Fuji camera. I am comfortable carrying it for portrait sessions or an evening walk around town.
Beyond portraits, I have enjoyed using it for food photography, indoor details, and casual street scenes. The natural perspective works well for everyday subjects, while the bright aperture gives me creative options when I want a softer background. It is not the lens I would choose for every fast-moving situation, since precise manual focus takes patience, but for deliberate photography it suits my pace nicely.
What keeps me reaching for it is the character it brings to ordinary scenes. I can photograph a friend near a window, capture the atmosphere of a dim restaurant, or make a simple object stand out against a softly blurred background. It rewards a thoughtful approach and gives me plenty of control over the final look. For portrait work and low-light photography on my Fuji system, it has become a rewarding addition to my kit.
