My recent projects have made me appreciate how much control a proper cinema camera can provide, and the C400 has been a pleasure to operate. The body feels purpose-built for serious video work without being unnecessarily cumbersome, and the controls are laid out in a way that lets me adjust settings without constantly breaking concentration.
The full-frame sensor has been especially useful for scenes where lighting is less predictable. I can push the camera in dim interiors and evening locations while retaining a pleasing amount of detail and natural-looking tones. Having 6K recording available also gives me useful flexibility when I need room for reframing during editing.
Focus performance has been dependable during interviews and moving subjects. I have spent less time correcting missed focus and more time concentrating on composition and the action in front of the lens. That has made longer shoots feel less stressful, particularly when subjects move around rather than staying in one position.
Menu navigation and physical controls have both made sense to me, and I like being able to configure the camera around the way I shoot. The RF mount also gives me plenty of lens flexibility, which matters when moving between different types of productions. Switching from a controlled interview setup to more spontaneous footage does not require a completely different approach.
Video quality has been the main reason I bought it, and the footage has given me plenty to work with in post. Highlights hold together nicely, fine details stay well defined, and the footage responds well to color adjustments. I also appreciate having a cinema-oriented body that feels suited to longer production days rather than casual handheld use.
There is definitely a learning curve compared with a standard mirrorless camera, but I found that worthwhile once I settled into the controls. Battery life has been suitable for my typical sessions, and the combination of handling, recording quality, focus performance, and lens flexibility makes it feel like a serious long-term addition to my kit. I am very pleased with how it has performed on actual shoots.
