The jump in detail and responsiveness from my previous camera was noticeable right away. I mostly use it for portraits, family events, and outdoor photography, and the body feels reassuringly solid in my hands without becoming uncomfortable during longer sessions. Controls are laid out logically, and I was able to adjust exposure settings quickly without constantly looking down.
Focus acquisition has been dependable for people and moving subjects, which has made candid photography much easier for me. Eye detection is especially useful during portraits, where I can concentrate on composition instead of repeatedly checking whether focus landed where I wanted. Fast-moving subjects at outdoor events have also been much easier to follow.
Low-light performance has been one of my favorite aspects. Indoor gatherings and evening scenes retain plenty of detail, and I can raise the ISO when necessary without feeling like the results fall apart immediately. The high-resolution sensor also gives me plenty of room to crop when I did not have time to get as close as I wanted.
Battery life has been reasonable for my usual outings, though I still carry a spare battery for longer days. Menu navigation and customizable controls make the camera feel adaptable to different types of shooting. Switching between stills and video is straightforward, and the video capabilities add a lot of flexibility when I want to capture more than photographs during an event.
For a high-resolution full-frame body, handling feels well balanced with the lenses I normally use. The electronic viewfinder is clear and responsive, while the rear screen makes low-angle and awkward-position compositions much easier. Weather-resistant construction also gives me more confidence when I am outdoors in less-than-perfect conditions.
Several weeks of regular use have left me impressed by how versatile the camera feels. It has enough resolution for detailed portraits and landscapes while still being capable of handling action and video without making me change my approach. I appreciate having a body that can adapt to very different assignments without feeling specialized for only one type of photography.
